Welcome to Kitty-Cam

Kitty-Cam has been running nearly continuously since April, 2003. Two cameras are set up in our house aimed where the cats are most often found.

Camera 1 looks down upon the bay window that faces the street. A large bird feeder is in front of this window, however, the birds remain uninterested in it.

Camera 2 provides a bird's eye view of the cats from their cat stand in the upstairs office. The cats have a view of the street below and when the window is open, passerbys are often caught off guard as the cats meow at them.

R.I.P Stormy (September 10, 2013)

One month ago we lost our beloved Stormy. This happened very sudden and took us quite by surprise. She had suddenly developed breathing issues. She was diagnosed with asthma, but failed to respond to any treatment. And after spending time in an incubator at the emergency vet, they were unable to wean her off of the oxygen. They also noticed that she was unable to regulate her body temperature. It was at this time that we made the decision that all pet owners hate to make, but know its for the best.

Stormy earned the nickname "Evil" early due to her bad attitude. Slowly, year by year she lost the attitude and became the "Baby" we grew to love.

She was approximately 16 years old and we wish she had more time with us.

Meet Wynn!

Despite out sadness over Finnegan for the past week, I was ready to fill that empty hole in my heart. Yesterday I convinced Jim to go to a satellite location of our local humane society where we can better interact with the kitties. I also had my eye on one of the cats residing there, Phoebe. Phoebe was great and looked like a larger version of Stormy. However, another cat caught out attention, Gizmo. Gizmo was easy going, laid back and great with all the other cats there. He sat on Jim's lap for much of our visit. Coincidentally he also looked a lot like Finnegan. At that point, it was easy to convince Jim he was the right one to bring home. We went out for lunch, home to get the cat carrier and then returned to complete the paper work and pay the fee. We renamed Gizmo to Wynn.

As we always do, we've taken it slowly introducing him to Stormy, Domino, Neo and the house as a whole. He first got familiar with the basement, then main level and finally second floor. He has fit in fabulously and has been a good boy about using his litter box. He has also appeared on both cams already. Keep your eyes out for Wynn!

R.I.P. Finnegan (October 27, 2012)

This happend all too fast for us. We got the diagnosis of lymphoma only two weeks ago. With medication he was better for about a week, but began to deteriorate again within the last week. During that first week we were getting him to eat again, not much but he was eating. During this last week I could only get him to eat about every other day.

Finny came to us in September 2001 when he was approximately 6 months old. That day I got an emotional phone call from Kris about a male farm kitten (the owner didn't want a 2nd male cat on the farm) that was going to be put down if he wasn't adopted out. Kris sent me a picture via email of this cute kitten sitting on her office chair. How could I say no.
I don't know why I don't remember this, but Kris remembers our first trip to the vet on September 11, 2001 (listening closely to the news on historic date).

Finny was a wonderful cat. Never demanding, always patient, and never agressive. I only remember him hissing once, and I believe that was because of Domino (but I'm sure Domino deserved it).
If I ever got out a brush to comb him, he always ran to me and rolled over. He loved getting brushed.
He was a little big for a "lap cat", but loved laying across your lap. I'll miss him at my side.

Yesterday was a horribly emotional day for both of us. Finny was too young and we wish he could have been with us for many more years.

Finnegan is Sick

Finnegan is sick

We are sad to report that it appears Finnegan is not doing well. He has always been the more withdrawn cat of the bunch, but lately we've been seeing less of him and have noticed a significant weight loss. We took him to the vet last Wednesday where x-rays revealed fluid in his lungs. As you can see in this image, some of his fur was shaved in order to remove some fluid to give him relief and test for the root cause of his illness. We have not gotten the results, but fear the worst. He did eat after coming home from the vet, but has lost his appetite in the last 24 hours despite offering him tuna and beef baby food. We are doing our best to keep him comfortable while we await results. More information will follow as it becomes available.
